Age of Stupid & Eco-Films

Saw the Age of Stupid today. Very good film.
Like when I saw an Inconvenient Truth, I was alerted to many more environmental issues that I had not seen before.
One of which is oil in nigeria.
The film showed a community that had let Shell drill for oil there.
They had been promised community building and investment.
Many years later, they are still drinking the same filthy, diseased water,
their children are dying from drinking it, they have a building that looks like it has been burnt down, but hasn't.
It was never built.
Shell had come, started building what was meant to be a health centre, and had left bare walls, and piles of timbers that were meant to be used for building.
Shell's excuse was that they had withdrawn because their builders were being abused, or something, which is frankly ridiculous.
The local area has been ruined by Shell's interference, one village had been completely torn apart by government soldiers for denying Shell their land.
Many buildings had been burned down, children had been killed, people were tortured.
The area is choked by fumes from gas flares.
Shell has to bring up the gas that comes with oil, but simply can't be bothered to use it for anything, so simply just burn it off.

Horrendous.

Shell are responsible for billions of tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere, and mass corruption in the areas where they drill.
The people they are supposed to be helping are getting poorer and poorer, less and less healthy.
They have practically nothing.
If an indulgent American were to live there for 2 weeks, they would describe it as hell.
If an indulgent American were to live there for a year, they would have their eyes opened(if they hadn't been killed by the crippling disease or one of their merciless massacres).

These eco-films really punctuate the mass reality of the environmental message.

A lot of people who deny the environment it's significance in their psychii will say "Oh, it's a minor issue."
If you compared it to a nuclear fallout, they would say "No, you can't compare it to that"

But the truth is, it's a lot like a nuclear war.
First, you fight with petty weapons, like guns, and grenades.
Then, suddenly, Nuclear strike.
You could compare that to the natural events of recently,
Then, Suddenly, runaway climate change.

You can't deny the disaster it would be if there were a nuclear fallout.
You can't deny the disaster it would be if runaway climate change took place.

Nuclear Fallout can be prevented with diplomacy.
Runaway climate change can only be prevented by worldwide effort.

That means everyone, oil barons, ozzies, americans, europeans, asians and africans alike.
Contrary to popular belief, the world cannot be saved by one person.
The only way the world can be saved is by every person.

Spread the word.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!
If you care about the environment, I hope you will be a regular visitor to my blog.
If you don't care, I hope this blog will change your mind.
I have called it EcOpinion because I'm not just larking on about the environment, this is about opinion, and sharing everyone's thoughts.
So my first piece of info on this first post, is this:
Everybody reading, in England, USA, or elsewhere, please see "An Inconvenient Truth".
Watch it on telly, rent it, buy it, watch it at a friend's house, I don't care, just see that film.
It lays out the baseline for the entire environmental issue.
If possible, get everyone you know to see it. And then tell them to to the same.
Get the message out there.

And tell everyone about my blog, the more readers, the better.

Thanks for reading.
